Sydney Artificial Eyes
What does an Ocularist do?
An ocularist is a highly skilled healthcare professional who specializes in the creation and fitting of custom-made artificial eyes, also known as ocular prosthetics. Ocularists work with patients who have lost an eye due to injury, disease, or congenital defects, to help them regain their natural appearance and improve their quality of life.

Ocularists use a variety of techniques to create custom-fit artificial eyes that match the size, shape, and color of the patient's remaining eye. This process often involves taking detailed measurements of the patient's eye socket, as well as making a mold of the eye to ensure a precise fit. Ocularists also use specialized tools and materials, such as acrylic resin and paint, to carefully craft the artificial eye.

Once the artificial eye has been created, the ocularist will work with the patient to properly fit and adjust the prosthetic. This may involve making minor adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit, as well as teaching the patient how to care for and maintain their new artificial eye.

In addition to their technical skills, ocularists must also have a strong understanding of human anatomy and the ability to work closely with patients to understand their needs and preferences. Ocularists often develop long-term relationships with their patients, providing ongoing care and support as needed.

Overall, the role of an ocularist is critical in helping individuals who have lost an eye to regain their confidence and self-esteem, and to live their lives as normally as possible.
